As a Cook at Holbeach Meadows you will assist in, and in the absence of the Head Chef, take responsibility for organising and controlling the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, whilst maintaining high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in line with EHO regulations, and Tanglewood policies and procedures.
There are many duties and responsibilities to such an exciting position:
· Lead the team in the absence of the Head of the Department and carry our all associated tasked to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen
· Supervise and instruct Kitchen Staff Members in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriate.
- Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals as and when required,
- Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary, and consider the preferences of individual clients
- Maintain accurate records of food supplies and freezer / fridge temperatures,
- Undertake menu planning in consultation with residents and the Registered Manager in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet,
- Work closely with managers to budget food requirements and order stock in a timely manner,
- Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and where appropriate, the dining areas) is carried out effectively,
- Work safely to protect yourself and others and in accordance with the 1974 Health & Safety at Work Act – COSHH.
There is some essential experience to be considered for this position but previous experience in a care home is not one of them:
- City and Guilds 706 - 1 & 2 or equivalent qualification (achieved or working towards)
- Hold or working towards Intermediate Food Hygiene Level
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Supervisory experience
